BetterZip is a multi-format compressor and decompressor that offers unique features such as password manager for encrypted files, file encryption with AES-256 algorithm, and editing files without extracting them. With BetterZip password manager you can unlock password protected from master key files. BetterZip will search for the appropriate password. Additionally, BetterZip creates its own files that are compressed using the AES-256 algorithm. However, its most interesting feature is that BetterZip allows editing ZIP or RAR shift contents with an external application such as TextEdit, Photoshop, or Office without extracting the files. On the other hand, BetterZip also shows images and documents using OS X's Quick View. And last but not least, BetterZip will give you information about the space occupied by each file, its read and write permissions, proper format and Modified date.

Here's a short list of new features and major improvements in the latest generation BetterZip. Integration with other applications - The new Finder extension puts all your presets in the Finder toolbar. Select some files in Finder, click the BetterZip button, and choose from the presets drop-down menu to create a file with those files. Of course, you can also call selected files from predefined extraction settings. - BetterZip 4 allows you to define as many services as you want, instead of the two pre-configured offerings previously offered. Use the Tools menu in the preset settings to add a service for the preset with the name you want for the preset. - BetterZip 4 comes with Automator actions to extract and compress as part of a workflow. - And BetterZip 4 interacts well with other apps like Alfred, LaunchBar and DropZone. - All this is possible thanks to improved compatibility with AppleScript. Favorites sidebar got some love In the new version, you can rename, copy, move and delete files, open a file in a new window or a new tab, view and edit files from multiple volumes as a single item. You can also choose to show all files in the sidebar instead of just files. What's more, Finder tags! New bar release Drop files into the new bar docking areas to have your favorite presets compress or extract them instantly. Navigation bar Make holes in folders by double-clicking them like in Finder. The path is shown at the top of the content folder file, allowing you to easily navigate through all the main folders and place items directly on them. Keep files Mac Free Stuff When you change a file that doesn't currently contain a specific Mac element (metadata Finder settings, etc.), you can now save all the Mac elements, Mac add things to the file, or be asked what to do every time. Set your preferred option in the General tab of BetterZip preferences. Repair RAR files If you type external commands when you install the dash tool, BetterZip 4 may attempt to repair damaged files when you open or remove them. Recovery volumes are now treated like any other part of a multi-volume RAR archive. Features
- Instead of moving extracted files to the trash after a successful extraction, BetterZip can now move them to any folder. - XADArchive.framework: Opens new formats thanks to PDF: PDF - extract bitmap images from PDF files. SWF: Extract images and music from Flash files. Both formats are of course not primarily files and are considered normal files. You can open them as files by holding down the alt/option key while open. Or you can remove them from the blacklist preferences (in the “File Types” tab). - Added support Zipx format and SITX. - Option to view folders above files (View>Sort Folder File). - Now you can determine whether to create individual files by compressing the order of operations by saving the presets. It is no longer a global setting. Combined with new dynamic services, this opens up some very interesting possibilities. - Preset another general option: zipping a folder from the commit queue does not include the folder itself, but only appends its contents to the root of the file. Besides the option to create individual files, you can now select a series of folders and compress them via a folder, which are individual BetterZip files that do not contain the folders themselves. - Saving presets can now add comments to files. - Empty windows now show a drop area for files. - Password manager can now import a list of passwords (password per line). - Sidebar Preview can now display more file types using Quick View. - Select a preset from within the panel to save/open and its configuration will be loaded. - Previously “hidden” adjustments have been moved to the preferences window. - Preferences window can now be resized. - Added XIP and pkg as recognized filename extensions. (Not all package formats supported, based on XAR only). - notifications now include extraction, file creation, and whether testing succeeded or failed. - Tar-based files are now extracted faster when using queue. - If a file is lost (for example, when it is deleted or the disk it is on is removed), you will receive an alert with the option to close the window.
