DjVuReader is the most popular DjVu file reader. DjVu is a new image compression technology to solve the problem of large image files being too large for an acceptable charging rate using the Internet. For companies and individuals dealing with large numbers of image documents, it not only reduces the storage space required, but also enables these documents to be distributed more efficiently. DjVu achieves compression ratios 5 and 10 times better than JPEG and GIF files for color documents, and 3 to 8 times better than TIFF for black and white images. Decompression is also generally more effective with an image requiring 25Mb of random access memory to decompress, requiring only 2Mb.
