Info
Unhappy with Spotlight because it can't find files you know are there? Use FAF to find every file on your disks, including those that are often hidden. By file name, date, size (not by content!)
• Have you recovered a file whose name you partially remember?
• Have you seen which files have changed in the last 5 minutes?
• Find all large files on your disk?
• Remove software that leaves files in hidden places where Spotlight is not visible?
Find Any File (FAF) is an excellent tool for these tasks.
You can even search disks that are not indexed by Spotlight, including server volumes.
Find Any File can find files that Spotlight can't, such as those inside bundles and bundles and system folders that are typically excluded from Spotlight's search.
Unlike Spotlight, it doesn't use a database, instead searching for data directly on disk. This allows you to search file properties such as name, creation and modification dates, file size, and even plain text inside files.
Another useful feature is the hierarchical results view (see screenshots). It allows you to view found items in their own folder, making it easy to browse through 100s of found items.
Finally fast. It's not as fast as Spotlight, but it only takes a few seconds to find all searched items on disk.
