Subnautica is an open world, underwater exploration and adventure game in development at Unknown Worlds, the independent developer behind Natural Selection 2. Dive into the Vast Underwater World After crash landing on an alien ocean world, the only way to go is down. Subnautica's oceans range from sun-soaked shallow coral reefs to treacherous deep-sea trenches. Manage your oxygen supply as you explore Kelp Forests, plateaus, reefs and winding cave systems. Water is full of life: some of it is beneficial, some of it is harmful. Cleaning, Crafting and Survival After waking up in your Life Pod, the clock is spent finding water, food, and upgrading the equipment you need to explore. Gather resources from the ocean around you. Craft knives, lamps, diving gear and personal watercraft. Venture deeper and further to find rarer resources that allow you to craft more advanced items. Underwater Habitats Build Build Create bases on the seabed. Select layouts and components and manage hull integrity as depth and pressure increase. Use your base to store resources, park vehicles, and replenish oxygen supplies as you explore the vast ocean. Food Chain Disruption The ocean teeming with life: Use the ecosystem to help you. Catch a threatened creature with a fresh fish and distract it, or simply swim as fast as you can to avoid the gnashing jaws of roaming predators. Fear the Night As the sun sets, the hunters appear. The ocean does not forgive those caught unawares in the dark. Areas that are safe to explore during the day become treacherous at night, but also reveal a beauty that those hiding from the darkness will never see. Shape the World The Subnautica seafloor is rendered using a dynamic voxel terrain system. Digging burrows to hide, loot, or short-circuit cave systems. Effects from vehicles and even exploding creatures will change the appearance of the world. Go Deep Cave systems wind beneath the seabed, from dark claustrophobic passages to caverns illuminated by bioluminescent life. Explore the world beneath the ocean floor, but watch your oxygen levels and be careful to avoid threats lurking in the darkness.
