OVC-128 is a highly oversampled soft/hard clipping effect AudioUnit, AAX and VST plug-in for professional music production applications. A common use for this plugin is to cut hard before the final peak limiter. This is an effective approach in modern electronic music when increasing loudness using a clipper plug-in; small overpeaks are absorbed by the last peak limiter, providing no additional gain.
Cutting rails with the OVC-128 is practically similar to cutting using high-quality outboard analog gear. At a source sample rate of 44.1kHz, the OVC-128's internal audio sampling rate is a high 5.6MHz!
A perfect combination for contemporary electronic music production is the OVC-128 following the Voxengo Elephant master limiter in “EL-C” or “EL INS” mode. This combination produces both energy and smoothness.
Note that OVC-128 is a relatively processor-intensive effects plug-in and requires a high-end processor for comfortable use. Cropping with 128X sampling on a single stereo track is calculated similarly to simple cropping on 1000 tracks.
